Meet Our Coaching Staff

Lojo Baseball has landed Jamodrick McGruder as Head Coach and Director of Lojo Baseball!

Jamodrick McGruder’s trajectory from a decorated collegiate player to a professional athlete led him on a straight path to being a dedicated youth coach and leader. Jamodrick is known as one of Texas Tech’s most prolific base stealers and elite hitters in the Big 12 Conference. Named All-Big 12 First Team and Freshman All-American, Jamodrick was also a semifinalist for the prestigious Dick Howser Trophy.

McGruder was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 9th round in 2012, allowing him to play professionally across multiple organizations. Channeling his experience as an athlete into developing the next generation of exceptional baseball players and men is Jamodrick’s passion. “Coach J” as his players affectionately call him, makes his home in Mesquite, TX with Jill and their two young children, Camille (2) and Jamille (1).

Lojo Baseball has scored Reggie Lawson as Assistant Coach and Assistant Director!

Reggie Lawson began his baseball career by signing with The Seattle Mariners in 2010, where he played until 2014. In 2014 and 2015, he was honored as a Frontier League Allstar.

Following his playing career, Reggie transitioned into coaching and served as a Collegiate North Wood League Coach in 2016. From 2020 to 2023, he contributed his expertise as an Area Scout for the Tampa Bay Rays. Coach Reggie, as the boys call him, is an inspiration and shining example of positivity and calm under pressure.

Originally from San Diego, Coach Reggie lives in Aubrey with his wife Patrice, and his four children Miah, Mason, Myles and Micah.

Jacob Cannon is the latest and greatest to join Lojo Baseball!

Jacob Cannon can’t remember a time in his life where baseball wasn’t a passion and priority. Jacob primarily supported his teams with his pitching skills throughout youth baseball and into high school. Jacob had plans to play for Kent State University before arm injuries took him out of the game. Plagued by these injuries, Jacob began setting his sights on becoming a private pitching instructor and team coach. For the past four years, Jacob has been developing young players at all skill levels, spreading the knowledge he gained from those who mentored him. Coach Cannon’s light-hearted nature makes him a favorite among his players. Coach Cannon resides in McKinney, Texas.

Coach Nick Peña joins Lojo Baseball!

Nick Pena’s competitive nature landed him as Lakeview Centennial High School’s 4-year varsity starter before he went on to play at Stephen F. Austin State University for 2 years. Nick then transferred to the University of North Texas to pursue his career as a Mechanical Engineer. With such a love for the game, Nick began coaching in 2019 and has been dedicated to shaping athletes into competitive ball players ever since. Coach Makel Butler joins the Lojo Baseball coaching staff!

Makel Butler is a passionate and knowledgeable baseball coach with a strong background as a former collegiate athlete. Having played junior college baseball at Frank Phillips College and Division 1 baseball at Texas Southern University, Makel brings firsthand experience and a deep understanding of the game. As a Five-Tool All-Star and a top 100 player at his position, he leverages his skills and competitive mindset to develop players’ athletic abilities and baseball IQ. Malik Butler links up with Lojo Baseball!

Malik Butler is a professional baseball coach and former college player at Southern Nazarene University and Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA). Ranked in the top 15 at his position in the state by Prep Baseball Report (PBR) out of high school, Malik brings high-level playing experience and a passion for developing athletes. Lojo Baseball has snagged coach Jason Jessup!

Jason Jessup is a passionate Physical Therapist and experienced baseball coach with a strong foundation in athletic performance and a love for helping others reach their full potential. A former collegiate baseball player at Angelina Junior College and St. Edward’s University, Jason brings firsthand knowledge of the physical and mental demands of high-level competition.

Following his playing career, Jason earned a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy, blending his athletic experience with clinical expertise in injury prevention, rehabilitation, and movement optimization. His background allows him to take a well-rounded, athlete-centered approach—whether he’s helping someone recover from injury or coaching them toward peak performance.

With over eight years of coaching experience, Jason has worked with athletes of all ages, focusing on skill development, strength and conditioning, and long-term athletic growth. His approach is built on discipline, resilience, and a genuine passion for sports.

Outside of his professional life, Jason enjoys spending time with his family and being outdoors, whether hiking, camping, or simply exploring nature.
